My Top 5 Money Mindset Books

Making money takes more than math. It also requires a positive money mindset, one that keeps you feeling confident and capable with your finances. If you’re not there yet, no worries! Here are my top five money mindset books to help you get on track!

What Is Money Mindset?

Money mindset encompasses everything you think and feel about money: how you earn it, how you spend it, why you save it, and why you want more of it. A negative money mindset is one of fear and scarcity; you’re afraid you won’t have enough money, unsure of how to earn more of it, and irresponsible with the money you have. But a positive money mindset is all about confidence. With a good money mindset, you can make, save, and spend your money well, all while trusting yourself to do it right.

Most of us enter adulthood with negative money mindsets, either from a lack of financial education or from watching our parents struggle with their finances. But with the right resources, you can improve your mindset and start creating the financial future you’ve been dreaming of.

(By the way, you can find all these titles on Bookshop.org, an online marketplace that supports local bookstores!)

If you want to learn the basics…

… check out Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping by and Get Your Financial Life Together by Erin Lowry. It’s hard to feel confident about your money if you don’t have a solid foundation of financial literacy. This book is a fantastic primer for everything from taxes to budgeting to retirement. And the best part: It’s written specifically for millennials and younger generations. No stuffy, out-of-date finance advice here! (And no “shame on you” finger-wagging, either.)

If you need to break your bad money habits…

… check out Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear. While this book isn’t about money specifically, it can help you break those bad money habits keeping you stuck and create new, healthier habits to reach your goals. This book has been a lifesaver for my business, my bank account, and even my mental health!

If you’re a little bit woo woo…

… check out Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!: Release Your Money Blocks and Live a First-Class Life by Denise Duffield-Thomas. I’m a firm believer that positive thinking inspires positive action. This book is all about manifesting wealth and abundance. While it might sound kind of woo, it’s full of actionable steps you can start taking today!

If you need a little pep talk…

… check out You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero. This book is great for anyone who thinks, “That could never be me.” The author talks about her own less-than-ideal financial beginnings and how she overcame her fears and limiting beliefs around money. It’s a no-nonsense inspirational story for anyone feeling stuck!

If your money goals are scary big…

… check out Quit Like a Millionaire: No Gimmicks, Luck, or Trust Fund Required by Kristy Shen and Bryce Leung. I recommend this book to anyone with unconventional money goals. In it, the authors share real steps you can take to create wealth, retire early, and even travel the world! Even if you don’t dream about becoming a digital nomad or retiring in your thirties, this book will inspire you to shoot high and start working towards your money goals.
